JIM DENAULT, ASC got his start shooting distinctive independent features such as Boys Don’t Cry, Maria Full of Grace and The Believer. He has gone on to photograph in a wide range of film and television genres. An interest in photography from an early age led him to study at Rochester Institute of Technology where he received a BFA in Photographic Illustration.
Among Denault’s feature film credits are many collaborations with director Jay Roach including All the Way, as well as Trumbo, The Campaign, Game Change and Recount. Other recent work includes Bad Moms and Pitch Perfect 2.
Denault was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography for Nadja in 1995, and Emmy nominations for Outstanding Cinematography for the HBO series Carnivàle in 2005, and the movie Game Change in 2012. He is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and The American Society of Cinematographers.
He finished the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon in 4:14:21, which is not bad for a non-professional in his age group.
